Test Engineer, Wi-Fi Radio Firmware

Job Description

The role is to maintain and enhance the test environment used by firmware engineers to test and debug radio level embedded software for SCSC’s range of connectivity chips. The test engineer will take ownership of the testing of a major aspect of a project and will be responsible for delivering the test capabilities on a timescale agreed with the group leader. Some fault-finding and debug of radio issues will also be involved.

• Write test scripts for new radio features
• Continuous investigation of test results to identify defects and suggest root cause to development engineers
• Test and debug complex scenarios involving radio performance
• Estimate the tasks and complete in agreed timescales
• Develop and maintain the department’s automated test system to produce Tx, Rx and throughput performance figures for a variety of products
• Develop and maintain scripts to improve presentation of test results to developers
• Create and maintain relevant documentation following the department’s processes
• Conduct peer reviews of test scripts, limits and results against customer requirements

Required Skills:
• Degree (or equivalent qualification) in maths/science/software/electronics
• Excellent proven experience of at least one scripting language (Python, Perl)
• Excellent proven understanding of test methodologies
• Proven experience of testing commercial software
• Good understanding of test debug techniques
• Effective team player
• Good communicator
• Good problem solving ability
• Proven experience in test automation using Litepoint/Anritsu/R&S or similar test equipment
• Experience of Linux/shell environment
• Experience of using revision control systems (Git preferred) and SQL
• Experience of configuring and running jobs using Jenkins
• Experience of document collaboration tools such as Wiki, Confluence, Cognidox

Desired Skills:
• Awareness of radio frequency technology and characterisation testing with radio test equipment.
• Experience of wireless communication protocols such as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth
• Exposure to Matlab scripting
• Familiarity with gnuplotlib, SciPy, Numpy, Matplotlib or similar tools
• Some experience of embedded software development in C
• Familiarity with Android Debug Bridge
