Job Description

Samsung Cambridge develops world class Wi-Fi and Bluetooth IP that features in multiple chipsets for smartphones, tablets and IOT devices. We are seeking to recruit an RFIC (Radio Frequency Integrated Circuit) systems engineer to join our RF/Analogue systems team and define our future radio systems. The ideal candidate will be looking to develop experience at delivering industry beating products in mobile communications – outperforming the competition in radio performance, power consumption and silicon area. The main role activity will be the definition of system architecture solutions for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth radios.  You will work closely with experienced RFIC systems architects, the modem systems and radio optimisation teams who are collocated with the RFIC systems team in Cambridge.  As part of a global team the role will include communication with and occasional travel to other design centres in Korea, the US and Europe. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Working with an experienced architect on the definition of radio architectures & circuit design specifications of the circuit blocks for a full sub-system, e.g. Tx, Rx, LO, DPD loopback. 
  • Working with an experienced architect on the production of system models for verification of circuit block specifications and verifying the circuit simulation results against system performance requirements. 
  • Documentation and presentation of specifications and system simulation results to RF/Analogue design teams. 
  • Working in the laboratory taking ownership of complex optimisation issues in silicon bring-up and root-cause debugging of technical issues, including customer, certification or regulatory issues. 
  • Some basic knowledge of the architectures and line-ups for Transmit, Receive and Local Oscillator used in RFIC solutions for highly integrated Wi-Fi/BT transceiver platforms.
  • A working knowledge of radio platform architectures for mobile connectivity e.g. RFIC TRx, FEM, Filters, Switches, PMIC.
  • Good communication & team-working skills plus outstanding problem solving skills
  • Good Degree (or equivalent qualification / experience) in maths / science / electronics
  • Familiarity with modelling and specification tools for Radio Systems, e.g. Matlab
  • Familiarity with laboratory test equipment and setting up complex measurement experiments. 
    • Some familiarity of the RF layer of the standards for Wi-Fi (n, ac, ax), Bluetooth and BLE. 
    • Some knowledge of analogue circuit design, ideally for RF/Analogue CMOS circuits.   
    • Some familiarity of the radio requirements for operation in 2.4GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz from regulatory bodies such as FCC and ETSI. 
    • Some familiarity of Layer 1 signal processing for OFDM and M-PSK. 
    • Some experience of system integration within a multi-domain environment, e.g. analogue, firmware & digital. 

Required skills
