Your role

Are you an enthusiastic, forward-thinking embedded software engineer looking for your next role? Samsung Cambridge are currently looking for a new member of our Firmware Team developing Wi-Fi for Samsung.

You will cover the entire software lifecycle; from requirements gathering, to system test and product support.

Your role involves working on major firmware modules, implementing designs and delivering within restricted timeframes, of the fully tested module. You may need to travel to customer sites to provide hands-on debug and support of issues.

You will be writing the software in “C” which runs in a resource constrained, embedded, real time environment.

Creative thinking and innovation are encouraged whilst ensuring we have a perpetual focus on quality in everything we do and the ability to work using your own initiative and without supervision is needed.


Your responsibilities

  • Analysing and documenting system and module requirements
  • Designing and documenting individual modules
  • Developing and testing (unit, system and acceptance) firmware of major scale and complexity
  • Maintaining software including defect investigation
  • Contributing towards the continuous development of the department’s processes
  • Supporting the development at customer sites which may involve occasional foreign travel


Skills and experience you definitely need

  • A degree (or equivalent qualification/experience) in maths/science/software/electronics
  • Excellent shown understanding of ‘C’ programming language for resource constrained real-time environments where MIPS and memory have to be utilised carefully
  • Experience of developing embedded protocol software
  • An understanding of embedded debug techniques and tools
  • An interest in solving problems and a tenacity in finding root causes for complex issues and delivering results


Skills and experience that would be desirable

  • Knowledge of a scripting language such as Perl or Python
  • Understanding of processor architectures and peripherals
