As an intern at Samsung Cambridge you will:

We will be recruiting for three interns in each of our technical departments. It’s your choice about which department you are the most interested in or which fits your skillset the most.

Departments

1.     Architecture & Digital Design

Locally known as ‘Digits’ this team are our hardware experts. They design the algorithms and the core digital IP for our chips. They are the first step in the process of designing our products focussing on a range of disciplines including algorithm exploration, digital design and verification.   

Working in Architecture & Digital Design would be a good fit for you if you:

  • Are studying Electronics Engineering, Mathematics or Physics
  • Have a basic understanding of digital signal processing and communication systems
  • Have experience in one or more of the following languages, C, SystemVerilog, MATLAB or Python

 

2.     Radio Firmware

Our Radio Firmware team’s purpose is to ensure we get the best possible performance out of our Wi-Fi Radio transmitters and receivers by tuning our analogue design. You will work on a range of tasks including development of firmware to control and optimise the performance of the Wi-Fi radio transmitter and receiver, prototyping algorithms in MATLAB, extending test systems and improving debug tools.

Working in Radio Firmware would be a good fit for you if you:

  • Are studying Computer Science, Electronics Engineering or Engineering
  • Have software development knowledge with a basic understanding of radio
  • Some hands-on experience in C, Python and MATLAB is beneficial but not essential

 

3.     Wi-Fi Firmware

Wi-Fi Firmware are our software development team. They’re one of our biggest departments with each of the sub-teams focussing on a different function of the Wi-Fi delivery. The team implement software to connect to access points and other Wi-Fi devices. You will be working on core firmware, extending test systems and enhancing analysis tools using machine learning as well as debugging real customer issues.

Working in Wi-Fi Firmware would be a good fit for you if you:

  • Are studying Engineering or Computer Science
  • Have some knowledge of Wi-Fi principles
  • Have knowledge of C or Python

 

4.     DevOps

Within our DevOps department we have three sub-teams focussing on different areas. The DevOps Apps team are the backbone of support and implementation for all of the systems we use internally such as GIT, Jenkins and JIRA. The Software Infrastructure team work in a wide range of system areas from embedded ARM firmware development through to Linux kernel drivers and Android integration. Finally, the audio team focus on Bluetooth Audio streaming technologies.

Working in DevOps would be a good fit for you if you:

  • Are studying Engineering or Computer Science
  • Experience of low-level C development or Python
  • Have an understanding of Audio techniques
  • Have a passion for working with Android devices or kernel hacking
  • Are a RaspberryPi enthusiast

 

5.     Verification & Validation

Verification & Validation are our test team. The team develop and use sophisticated test systems to prove our Wi-Fi and Bluetooth products.  The work they undertake involves a mixture of setting up test hardware, hands-on testing and scripting to automate tests and analyse the results.

Working in Verification & Validationwould be a good fit for you if you:

  • Are studying Engineering
  • Have experience of using Python
  • Have great analytical skills and an attention to detail

What we are really looking for in our interns is a passion to learn, develop and be involved in real customer projects we are currently working on. You’ll need to have driveand ambitionwith a spark of creativity.

We are looking for students who:

  • Are studying any relevant degree e.g. Engineering, Computer Science, Maths, Physics
  • Have had exposure to some of the languages we use
  • Enjoy solving problems collaboratively
  • To be able to complete a full 10 or 12 week placement over the summer
  • Willing and able to arrange your own accommodation for the summer
